'Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach. Many people, including pregnant women, suffer from heartburn or acid indigestion caused by GERD

My husband suffers from acid reflux. He takes 20 mg of Nexium twice a day

Thanks for adding me to the group. My husband suffers from acid reflux. He takes 20 mg of Nexium twice a day. No relief.

He eats oatmeal with honey for breakfast, and fish with rice and a green vegetable for dinner. Still has troubles swallowing and is always burping up acid.

It’s very hard on us as a family. We had his throat stretched in 2015 and it did not help at all.

Going to see a new specialist on April 9th...But my husband is terrified. He doesn’t want to get the scope done because he’s afraid of the damage they may find. He doesn’t want surgery again considering the last didn’t help at all and just made things miserable for awhile.

So hard to see him living with this. Any suggestions?

He really needs to get the scope

Cayden Hollis
I agree. But he says there’s no “cure” for whatever they find. So he says what’s the point.

Tashauna Hylton
Does he drink coffee? If so stop, it use to make me feel like I was having heart issues amongst other things. I also quit meat and started taking a digestive enzyme. I feel so much better not 100% but I know it will take time. He needs to find his triggers.

Julie-Anne Ross
I was looking at getting these are you happy with them ?

Tashauna Hylton
Yes I am very happy with them, they're great. I can really tell the difference when I don't take them.

Julie-Anne
Ross Tashauna Hylton can you compare the ingredients in this one if you don’t mind see if it is as good as I can get it at local chemist thank you.

Julia Ve
Tashauna Hylton did you do gastro and did they find anything?

Tashauna Hylton
Yes they put me to sleep and put a camera down my throat. I have an appointment to check in with my GI this week. I've had acid reflux for years. I did not have H. Pylori or any ulcers but that was last year. He did see inflammation and alot of acid but no reason why besides that. He also said I have gastritis.

Tashauna Hylton
Julie-Anne Ross I think you should keep taking the ones you took a picture of and add these to them as they have different ingredients.

Julia Ve
Tashauna Hylton do you also take antiacids? It says here that you should take it 30 mins before food, it's not necessarily in the morning right?

Tashauna Hylton
I take prilosec in the mornings before I eat or drink anything and since I changed my diet I haven't taken any antacids at all. I either take the digestive enzyme after or during the meal. Kefir is also a God send because that helps tremendously.

Kelly Jo Tynes-Peissner
What is Kefir?

Tashauna Hylton
Kelly Jo Tynes-Peissner it is a lactose free drink that kind of resembles yogurt but a bit thinner. It is filled with probiotics and coats the stomach. If you like yogurt give Kefir a try

Cayden Hollis Watch some videos on "prolonged fasting" to understand the health benefits. I had friends self heal from diabetes with it. It can give your body a chance to heal itself and reorganize. Our bodies are capable of self recovery.

Penny Willow
Reflux is usually worse if you don't eat.

Andrew Patrick
If acid reducing medication works it shouldn’t. Thousands of people were part of this study and they didn’t have an issue.

Mridu Kaushal Sharma
I have heard about this but won't fasting make u feel worse since u are supposed to eat every 2-3 hrs

Andrew Patrick
Mridu Kaushal Sharma whoever fed you that is full of shit. Food Marketing. Ask yourself how caveman survived thousands of years ago.

Mridu Kaushal Sharma
Andrew Patrick I been wanting to go ahead n try the dry fast since have heard it's really beneficial but my Gastro advised against it since am dealing with reflux .

Andrew Patrick
well im no doctor but not all Doctors know everything nor do they even do research on things like this. They just resort to medication.

Shacresa Underwood Kelly
Hmm I wonder if stomachs over-produce acid if you eat too often?? Never thought about it. I snack a lot.

Mridu Kaushal Sharma
Shacresa Underwood Kelly could be...if u think about it makes sense that's y this eat at fixed times n fixed no of meals

Marianne Almås
Andrew Patrick yeah, but their life expectancy was 30-35 y.o.

Andrew Patrick
An article written by a psychologist. I study science and facts.

Marianne Almås
Andrew Patrick it is a proven fact among paleoanthropologist that these guys lived to the ripe old age of 35, but whatever.

Duncan
I found success with water fasting.

Mridu Kaushal Sharma
Duncan Humphries what's that

Spencer Sharp Just some personal things I have done: had my omeprazole changed to protonix. Stopped eating gluten and lactose (except cheese and yogurt) take digestive enzymes, probiotics, slippery elm and mega dose then maintain with l-glutamine. Of course everyone is different, but getting that scope is necessary. Glad I found out I had BE and it wasn't cancerous rather than not know.

Penny Willow
He needs to either increase his dose of Nexium or try another one (or two), consider adding Ranitidine, take Gaviscon Advanced regularly, keep to a low acid diet STRICTLY, raise the head of the bed. Reflux can be controlled if you work from a plan.

David Wingler
Eating twice a day has helped me a lot. I’m not cured but better than before.

Deanna Dawn Ryder
Has he seen an allergist? Has he had a full skin and blood allergy panel?
Been evaluated for EoE and OAS?

Cayden Hollis
No...maybe we should start there? Because I feel like things bother him that shouldn’t. Like he can’t eat bananas? Maybe that’s a food allergy?

Thami Cross
When ppis and acid reducer's dont work it's probably bile reflux which is worse than acid some people have both get the scope

Jenny Arnold
Ppis don't work for me at all. I use meds given to me by my homeopath. The only times that it has helped me. I take 1 teaspoon of ACV in full glass of water . And digestive enzyme, And avoid my trigger foods at all costs, which can change at times... I felt that the GP and ENT and gastroenterologists didn't seem to have a clue what was wrong. Had a scope 3x. No food allergies.. even gave me a asthma pump once because I couldn't breathe properly because of the sharp pain when I breathed in in my back. (Full flare up mode).. finally told it's silent reflux. They just tell you to keep taking the PPIS and upping the doses. It works for some. But you have to start understanding your own body and triggers.. and maybe look at alternative medicines. I hope you find some answers.
He's lucky to have you on his side, trying to find answers with him.

Cayden Hollis
That’s why he’s doesn’t want to see the doctor...He says they never know what’s really going on. And it’s not like they have the cure...they’ll just push another medication on him.
He does apple cider vinegar in water with honey every night. Do you do it before dinner or after?
We have not tried digestive enzyme. Which one are you on?

Jenny Arnold
I really only felt better after visiting a homeopath or naturopath works to for some.. sick of doctors looking at me like I'm insane😕.. I also get Vit B injections. It helps me as well. Helps energy levels. Problem I find is that reflux affects your energy your joints, moods.. uugh.. I will take pics for you of what I take... I also drink alot of water and rooibos tea (redbush) plain or blended with chamomile or ginger.. its a tea we were brought up with, good for babies as well. Not sure how available it is where you live.. I will send you photos of the vitamins etc.

Jenny Arnold
Not sure what the stuff is that the homeopath gives me but that works for me. It really calmed my flare up.

Rosalind Retty Da Prat
I take Dexilant! Had to switch from prevacid! This stuff is Gold! Took awhile to kick in though!

Cayden Hollis
Is that something you can take long term? Did you change your diet? Sure would be nice if that would fix it for him.

Marilene F Paragioudakis
He should try treating it naturally, find a good holistic doctor and he will suggest doing a body detox, he probably has bacterial overgrow and the medications only makes his condition worse.

Deanne DeeDee Diggs Williams
It's the GMO food sprayed with glyphosate yall!! You all need the AIP diet, go organic, eat plain yogurt and drink baking soda water. I also have a book you need to read. It's packed with info, mostly from groups like this. It's on amazon if you're interested. It kills me to see everyone suffering.

Jenny Arnold
Have a look at the fb group for leaky gut syndrome as well.. Some interesting things on there regarding stomach issues..

Aurelien Merveilleau
That is very simple, there is a big issue with what he eats as you described...You must go to low carb diet/cetogene...After few weeks, it will be over, but he must be strict on eat, if you want some other infos,PM me

Cayden Hollis
This is the only things he can eat that don’t bother him

Aurelien Merveilleau
Cayden Hollis that is his main problem...do you give carb and sugar to your dog? Actually once a while we can eat carb, but not everyday for sur.

Patricia Jackson
Has he considered eliminating grains? I had to eliminate gluten, not celiac just celiac sensitive. Feel better nowadays not cured by any means just sharing my small victory.

Jean Low
its helped me to cut out all wheat and dairy,no tea or coffee,no citric fruit, and very small meals every 2 hours,i also drink ginger herbal tea,i feel so much better now, still get the odd bad day but on the whole its better,

Duncan
Oats are a big trigger for me. Also, I can only tolerate a small amount a raw honey (preferably manuka/organic) per day.

Duncan

I can relate. It has been a very slow recovery for me. Its been 15 months of struggle for me. After trying all the meds, I finally found Dexilant to be the best. I can even skip a day here or there with little discomfort. Ginger and honey tea makes me...Lihat Lainnya

Chad D. Will
And not to mention I got a sleep number bed for elevation. It has made a difference too. The worst part of reflux for me is lack of sleep. Was averaging 4 hrs a night or less. Now I'm up to 6. Hope to get to 7.

Mridu Kaushal Sharma
Chad D. Will sleep is the worst one for me ..lack of sleep and nausea
