'Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach. Many people, including pregnant women, suffer from heartburn or acid indigestion caused by GERD

So I thought potatoes would be good for the acid reflux

So I thought potatoes would be good for the acid reflux. Made mashed potatoes for lunch and ate them alone. Having reflux now. Do potatoes bother anyone else?

Donna Paresky
Potatoes are high in carbs. Fermentable carbs = reflux.

Nina Spencer Wassel
Thanks I didn’t realize this. I’ve been eating a lot of them because I thought that would be more alkaline

Donna Paresky
I follow Fast Tract Diet for digestive health.

Nina Spencer Wassel
Is fast track for acid reflux?

Donna Paresky
Yes Nina!

Nina Spencer Wassel
This is very confusing. I downloaded the app. It says if you go out to eat it’s ok to have pizza and eat the cheese with tomato sauce. I don’t do well with tomato. Have you lost weight on this and did you do it for reflux?

Nina Spencer Wassel
A lot of things on there go against what we think for acid reflux.

Jenny Harris
I brown pasta ok ?

Donna Paresky
Depends of what diet you are following Jenny.

Jenny Harris
Donna Paresky I’m just trying to get my head round things at the moment I guess it’s trial and error xx.

Nizma Shereef
I get reflux with everything🙄

Tim Hicks
No I eat potatoes alll the time with no problem,

Kathryn Wilkinson
It was the butter
Use a little bit of olive oil or plant milk instead
Potatoes is one of the only thing I can eat during a flare up.

Nina Spencer Wassel
If you go by the Fast Track diet butter is fine but potatoes are high

Kathryn Wilkinson
Spencer Wassel I don’t eat animal products and butter is acidic and basic potatoes no added spice or dairy, can help soothe the throat for a little while and it’s one of the only things I can digest without pain.

Nina Spencer Wassel
I’m so tired of giving things up!!

Iennob Mahnob
Yes. Potatoes close off my throat and cause pain in my diaphragm. Have you considered a gluten sensitivity

Nina Spencer Wassel
Yes I do better if I stay away from gluten. I have thyroid issues, hashimotos but I’ve slipped some lately

I have gone to a Restart class. Butter and real fats are suppose to be a good thing. Processed fats bad. The teacher is helping me and we discussed potatoes last night. We came up with sweet potatoes cooked in a good fat like lard or coconut oil is my best choices for now if I want potatoes. Butter should be okay. I am eating zero dairy but do use some butter occasionally.
