'Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach. Many people, including pregnant women, suffer from heartburn or acid indigestion caused by GERD

Bloating, nausea, and burping - all signs of GERD/acid reflux?

Does anyone else experience bloating/gas/constipation within a short time of taking even chewable over-the-counter antacids? PPIs and H-2 blockers are definitely constipating for me but I've had a bit of a flare the last couple days and was traveling today so I took some chewable antacids and within a couple hours I had that horrible tight and twisty feeling in my lower abdomen. And they didn't even help the reflux much. I'm so frustrated, I've been doing everything I can with diet and supplements but it seems like there are no antacid medications my body will tolerate.

I had the same problem. Doctors kept telling me I’m crazy. I’ve stopped taking them. I’m taking probiotics and prebiotics, eating small meals, I’m much better now.

Glad to know I'm not alone! I've never been one to eat huge meals, so I definitely keep my meals small, I've almost completely cut out dairy, avoiding tomatoes, citrus, spicy things, fried foods, etc. and there are weeks where my symptoms are fairly minimal, but my flares seem to come out of nowhere and I'm always tempted then to try the antacids or pills again. But every time I try Ranitidine again, I end up bloated, constipated and miserable within about 24 hours. What sort of prebiotics do you take?

Julie Summers actually, lemon juice can help. I take it in the morning. Usually it’s not having enough stomach acid.
I use the prebiotics from the vitamin shoppe.

If you take ppi and get all these symptoms they are not working .I stopped them and all those symptoms disappeared within 2 days .please consider it

I don’t take PPIs and I never will again. Any problems I had before taking them got a thousand times worse after taking them. It’s just frustrating that I can’t seem to find anything that helps with gerd without making my digestion miserable. I really don’t get how so many people take high doses of these meds for years.
