'Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach. Many people, including pregnant women, suffer from heartburn or acid indigestion caused by GERD

I have experienced bad acid reflux during all three of my pregnancies

Hello Everyone! My name is Stephanie and I'm 28 years old. I have experienced bad acid reflux during all three of my pregnancies and it never really went away. I would take tums and go on about my day up until recently. It got so bad it felt like I couldn't swallow food. It would make it hard to breath as well. I made my first GI appointment for two weeks. I'm nervous about what they will do and what they will find. My aunt was just diagnosed with stage 3 stomach cancer. I feel like I'm on the right path, but still extremely nervous.

Good to know you're getting checked out. Try not to stress til you get results. Could be related to pregnancy.

I hope it's nothing serious. The trouble swallowing does make me quite anxious.

Wishing you great results from your doctor appointment.

It reduces body acidity.

Swallowing problems are SO common with this health issue. You're doing the right thing making an appointment, but don't let yourself get scared over worst-case scenarios! You are very young!

Yes I had severe swallowing problems after my first pregnancy. Got a dilation of strictures & been on ppi for 3 years. Recently had strictures again & another dilation. Now on stronger dose ppi. But considering surgery. I also get the lpr symptoms.

Stephanie Springer
The Doctor is putting me on a ppi. I have a consultation in two weeks and in August I think we are going for a scope.

Amy Rawls Dodson
Stephanie Springer that's good. Yours isn't as bad as mine yet then. Hopefully it doesn't get that bad. I am at my wits end. And I'd really like another baby but I don't think I can do another pregnancy unless improve.

Stephanie Springer
I'm so sorry to hear of your struggle. If you decided on surgery will it permitly deal with the strictures?

Amy Rawls Dodson
Stephanie Springer it would be reflux surgery. Which would hopefully prevent any more recurrence as well as solve the lpr issues. But surgery is scary. All the various types have pitfalls.

First I am so sorry for your loss. I am sure that was horrific & still is.
Second I agree completely. I had none of these problems until I was postpartum with my first child. Then it was controlled during my second pregnancy but horrible after & still horrible while breastfeeding.
