'Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach. Many people, including pregnant women, suffer from heartburn or acid indigestion caused by GERD

Deep Parihar
i have had panic attacks but today my heartbeat is just not goin down

Emanuela Crolla
But I still need to be officially diagnosed but I'm so sure it is this. Got breathing tests next week including a hyperventilating one? I get acid, shortness of breath, sore sinuses, stuffy nose, mucus at back of throat, funny taste at back of throat.

Emanuela Crolla Have you tried breathing exercises? I had to have a bath there to see if it helped calm me down

Deep Parihar
i have had..they have helped me as incidences of panic attacks have gone down, but today its just non stop. i am fearing to move as raising my hands or turning my shoulders increases pain along with the heartbeat.

Deep Parihar

Same symptoms here ! Got it checked out and it is not my heart. Good luck

Deep Parihar
he told that it is chronic gastritis along with reflux and ecg had some gad some non specific changes..that was due to tachycardia due to anxiety acc to him.

When I get anxious I start to feel the acid coming up in throat. Not sure if mine is even proper reflux or something do with anxiety. It is not effected by food just stress alone. When I'm busy I'm fine, when I sit and think that's when it starts.

Deep Parihar
but nowadays i am always anxious..need a psychoatrist i guess

I'm in a constant state of anxiety.... I find a bath or shower helps.. A good cry .... I also started those adult colouring books, they really help me calm down xxxx.

Clare Louise Searby Samantha
I find when I'm busy I'm fine! This is why I'm putting it down to anxiety. What I eat has no bearing on it. Xx

I thought I was having heart attack, lung collapse and it was due to silent reflux constraining my esophagous through narrowed passageway. narrowing . Rather than panic, I incorporate togic breathing and absolute self care otherwise to de-stress my life.

Anxiety and Reflux to me are connected as i suffer with this. The racing heart is anxiety within its self. The anxiety can stay all day because you are probably worrying or tense about something. Relaxation helps try that. Yoga also worth trying helps. Just remember that u saw your dr had tests and are in the clear take heart from that.

Clare Louise Searby
Thank you. I don't get the racing heart with anxiety I think it's more in my head worry if that makes sense and then that's when I feel the acid etc. Food has no bearing on it either which makes me think it's worry related. When I'm busy and distracted I'm fine it's when I sit and think and worry it's there.

Because the vagus nerve runs through the stomach, and it controls stomach, breathing, heart then it could be that the vagus gets irritated by the acid and causes the nervous system to get out of whack...sending wrong messages. I only get ectopic beats and SVT and find it hard to breath deeply when I have the acid.....which is all the time right now.

Is yours ruled by anxiety Jen? What do u take for it?

Jen Penrose
No I was not anxious but very stressed when it began. Moving house and divorce etc. I don't take anything, but try to eat alkaline as much as poss. The whacky heart beats DO make me feel anxious because they sometimes make me feel very faint.

Linda Comfort
Yes. It can. I can personally confirm it because it has happened to me. Usually, the reflux keeps me up and I can't sleep. When I can't sleep, I get irritable and anxious. Try some earl grey tea, ginger ale, or (this may sound silly) benadryl. Benadryl will slow you down. Take 1 though for a start, 2 will knock you out. Pepcid or Zantac works really well for reflux too.

I know from current experience thatq anxiety kicks my GERD Off. Its such an irritating condition. Hate it.

Erica Samantha
Anxiety and Reflux mutually affect each other it's a vicious cycle. I hate reflux. Such a frustrating and debilitating disease

Jessie Nunez
You might try seeing a gastroenterologist to see if you have a hiatal hernia. That occurs when part of the stomach enters the diaphram. The condition also can cause rapid heartbeat because it aggravates the vagus nerve.

Patricia Jackson
Yes it can find a way to get it under control

Deborah Skinner
So do you have a leaky bladder with this? I am trying to connect weak bladdr, chest pain, eating habits, sleep habits all together, to come up with solve.

Jean Johnson Skinner
I was unaware that a weak bladder was part of that. Is this what I have to look forward to?

Patricia Jackson
I have some autoimmune disorders that run in our family my Gerd is pretty much my heritage in the genes

Clare Louise Searby
Are under active thyroid Patricia?

Patricia Jackson
I sorta think it's over active

Clare Louise Searby
I'm under maybe there is a link

Patricia Jackson
I keep a watch on it I told my new doctor that there's Graves' disease in my family ( my sister)so one day at a time one blood test at a time . Just don't let your dr. ignore it .

Clare Louise Searby
How do u mean? Don't ignore it?? Blood tests??

Patricia Jackson
Yes blood test, they check...TSH, T3 and T4 I believe. The thyroid is the biggest hormone in our bodies and it controls and everything so if there's a problem with it it's very important we don't ignore it.

Clare Louise Searby
Yeah I go every 3 months for a blood test. Have had it since early 2013 but only had this reflux for about 2 months not sure if they are linked

Patricia Jackson
I don't think so

Clare Louise Searby
I think mine is down to anxiety. Although I worry so much morning sickness over 3 pregnancies may have caused something nasty?
