'Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach. Many people, including pregnant women, suffer from heartburn or acid indigestion caused by GERD

I recently had a consultation with a Nutritionist and this is what he told me regarding this awful reflux.

I recently had a consultation with a Nutritionist and this is what he told me regarding this awful reflux.

"What you're not making enough of is HCL...stomach acid. Acid reflux is actually fermentation reflux. When your adrenals are over-taxed (which is always true when thyroid is weak) your stomach won't produce enough acid for proper digestion. Everything you eat will ferment rather than digest....leading to gas, bloating, acid reflux, heartburn, belching...and just plain intestinal problems. You actually need to supplement every meal with HCL."

Needless to say, I ordered the HCL w/Pepsin by Solaray. I hope it comes in today because I am anxious to get started.

I hope this works for you, it makes perfect sense. Far more sense that the band aid the Dr.s are pushing on patients.

Sheila Moore Burt
I know! It made sense to me too. And the doctors just kept prescribing more and more pills!

Rebecca Oakleaf Sheila
I hear that. I am on H2 blocker 2 X a day and the Dr.s, even the cardio Doc never stop trying to talk me into adding a PPI.

Sheila Moore Burt
This nutritionist makes all my issues make sense and has given me hope that I will get better NATURALLY. He explained things to me that my GYN or regular doctor couldn't.

Rebecca Oakleaf Sheila
Yes I find the truth is coming from the alternative medical practitioners. If we can do this in a way to work with our own body in the way it was intended to work we are going to really have healing and not more side effects from more going wrong.

Katherine Mbugua
Rebecca Oakleaf you are right.l went the natural remedy way and now am at peace.Nutritionists understand our fate better and their problem solving skills work well gradually though.

Katherine Mbugua thats so good! are you taking HCL too?

Rebecca Oakleaf
Katherine My next visit will be with a functional medical practitioner. I have done the Dr. route and after thousands of dollars of debt, I am worse.

Katherine Mbugua You wont regret my dear plus put your faith in it.You will be well and free from debts. All the best!

Katherine Mbugua
Sofia Lindman no am not taking HCL am using alkaline foods, changed feeding pattern, eat different seeds/nuts and consume natural honey.lts a total lifestyle change!

Have decided to wean myself off the protonix I'm currently on and start to eat better cutting out the foods that I shouldn't be eating. Wanna go natural route to get better but there are so many foods I can't eat anymore to include all meats, cept poultry, beans, seeds, most dairy, tree nuts, onion, garlic, tomatoes, egg yolks, and so much more. I added 2 different types of probiotics and still have issues. Am a caregiver for my husband so can't get any testing done. Gotta figure this out on my own. I know part of it is the Tylenol and Motrin I've taken and still take for my arthritis though I've cut back drastically on how much I take these days. Just wanna figure out what else I need to add to try to fix whatever my issue(s) is/are. I've noticed I'm having more memory issues. Since I have ADHD and a grandparent that had dementia, I don't need any other help forgetting stuff!

Your Nutritionist is right! I’m glad you found a good one that knows what they’re talking about too! I would also take digestive enzymes with the HCL. The digestive enzymes will help break the food down that your digesting so it can travel through the digestive tract much better and nutrients can be absorbed.

Sheila Moore Burt
This was just a small piece of the advice he gave me. We did a consultation via email. He will do them by email, phone or in person. He was recommended by a friend I trust completely so I did it. I feel this is the information I have been begging my doctor for, for years.

Stacey Moseley Stephanie
is there a good brand or can I just buy them on Amazon? Also how much does a person take of the HCL and digestive enzymes? I am guessing before you eat??

Melissa Luttrell
My holistic doc says I need to heal my stomach lining before introducing the HCl. By improving the stomach chemistry the sphincter will become toned (not floppy). I’m taking these things in addition to other supplements.

Sheila Moore Burt
Melissa Luttrell He recommended a Probiotic as well as many others.

Melissa Luttrell
Sheila Moore Burt the L-Glutamine above is to heal the lining of the stomach and esophagus. It’s really making a difference when I take it every day.

Melissa Luttrell
Sheila Moore Burt I was taking one with only 1 billion whatevers and only two strains. He recommends 20-100 billion with multiple strains. I’m feeling good about addressing the problems and being on my way to better health, yay!

Sheila Moore Burt
That is awesome!

Michelle Raighn-Hall
True, heal the lining first. HCI before stomach lining is addressed can burn like

Sofia Lindman
Really interesting, went to my doctor today and i'm pretty sure he said that my GERD/LPR is due to too little acid.

Lisa Kelly
Funny. I mentioned something like this awhile back after an appt with a naturopathic doctor and basically got laughed at.
I'll follow- very interesting

Christine DeMarco
I think you are on the right path. Keep going forward.

Sheila Moore Burt
I am Christine. I am willing to do what it takes to get my health back.

Erin Thur
I wonder if this is also true for those with h.pylori who suffer from acid reflux...

Sheila Moore Burt
I don't know. He addressed my specific needs and there were a lot of them.

Erin Thur
I will give it a try, thanks Sheila Moore Burt

Melissa May Erin Thur do you have it because I do and I'm so confused 😔 on what to do. Like do the treatment and see if it helps or will it make it worst..I have silent reflux and the pepsin stays in my throat all day until I lay down..

Sheila Moore Burt
I have Silent Reflux and all other issues as well. I am getting started so will let you know.

Iv just started betaine hcl after getting intolerance tests done and cutting out what I’m intolerant too. I’m on day 2 of betaine hcl and I am not sure if anything happening yet but I’ll sure update if it’s working.

Tracy Fisowich-Avram
Sometimes I wonder if I have low stomach acid and if my ppis have caused LPR and my buring tounge!

Linda Kaufman Schuknecht
I believe this.....I have found since all mine started, food is taking longer to digest...my natural path said something very similiar but I was offered herbs before eating and digestive enzymes, probiotics and glutamine.....I am eating smaller meals, no great foods any more. I rarely ever having burning, just lump in throat feel and bloat.....

Tierra M. Nauman
It's not common to have low stomach acid so be careful.

Tracy Fisowich-Avram
But how does one tell without 9 million doctors test

Tierra M. Nauman
You don't make sense, but if you're saying what I think you are. There have been plenty of studies showing that low stitch acid isn't a common cause if acid reflux or GERD, it's usually the opposite. All I said was too be careful, treating acid with acid is dangerous.

Tracy Fisowich-Avram
I am not doing that I take a ppi everyday which I think isn't helping.

Ron Kochanowicz
How was it determined that your thyroid/adrenals are overtaxed? Was cortisol A.M. checked? Thyroid panel? TSH? TPO? Hashimotos? This is very interesting.

Denise Grimes
You can also try digestive enzymes.

Simon Tivey
That's another solution that may be the problem. Your body produces less enzymes as you age so it's more difficult to break down the food or toxins, t's the reason hangovers get worse the older you are.

Alix Levine
This is very similar to what our functional practioner explained, but she wants tests before adding anything.

Mayte Robertson Fernandez Cuñado
There is a group in FB called Betaine HCL, maybe you can get some tips there.

Penny Willow
What's a "nutritionist"? It's not the same as a dietician is it?

Michelle Cam
Oh gosh my thyroid and adrenals have been messed up for donkeys years .

Simon Tivey
I've just seen a nutritionist and I'm having a test done to measure the good and bad bacteria in gut. She said some bad bacteria like an acidic environment and make it more acidic like hpylori which is why the treatment for that is ppi and antibiotics. The plan is find what bacteria is causing the problems (could be many) take a supplement that kills it whilst taking another to change the environment of the gut to one it doesn't like then finally replenish the good bacteria which should now survive without being outnumbered and destroyed by the bad

Alix Levine
This is what we are starting too

Simon Tivey
I've just received my test kit (3 day stool sample) it says you should wait 14 days if your taking any beneficial bacteria like acidophilus. My nutritionist didn't tell me that. I've been having kefir milk for a while although only a couple of inch in a cup every morning. Wonder if I should wait.

Simon Tivey
I had to give a reference code I got from my nutritionist to order it and the results go back to her. The kit comes from Genova Diagnostics Europe, Surrey, Uk and the test is called Comprehensive Parasitology. There's a more expensive in depth one you can have that tests your DNA which is £344.

Simon Tivey
Well my results came back and I have an overgrowth of yeast bacteria 3 different strains. Geotrichum, Citrobactor amalonaticus, Citrobactor braaki. It also shows the best supplements to limit the growth, uva ursi and plant tannis are good for all strains, garlic, undecylenic acid are also good for the geotrichum strain. Also shows the best antibiotics I could take if I wanted to go that route. It's good to finally know what's causing my issues I just hope the supplements and diet work. The strange thing is my good bacteria is fine.

Barbara McKelvie-Martin
Can you buy HCL over the counter?

Stephanie Parks
Yes. I buy mine at Natural Grocers. Whole Foods, Vitamin Shoppe all carry it too. Amazon will have it also

Barbara McKelvie-Martin
Thanks I'll give them a try

Stephanie Parks
Barbara, you’re welcome. Start slow and slowly increase if you need to. Once you feel a slight burning in your stomach, then drop back by one or two pills and that’s the amount you need to take. Some people need to take 9 or 10 capsules. Dr. Axe has good information on it if you need more info.

Barbara McKelvie-Martin
Thanks. I'm off work tomorrow so I'll have a look

Stephanie Parks
Barbara, sounds good. You’re more than welcome to message me too if you have any questions. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours 💖💖

Barbara McKelvie-Martin
Thanks Stephanie but I'm in Scotland. Hope you have a good thanksgiving x

Kerrin Barnes
Please keep us updated. I Ave recently seen a Natropath who sent me home with enzymes with hcl and pepsin. I have been too scared to take them.. i am also awaiting results from peptest.

Mike Kroogz
This treatment has been spoken about before. Where are all the success stories???
