'Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach. Many people, including pregnant women, suffer from heartburn or acid indigestion caused by GERD

I went to a gastroenteritis and according to her, it might be acid reflux

Good day everyone! I hope someone can help me with this. Early last month, for two weeks, I'm having problem with my stomach like its always empty and hollow and the frequent gas. On the third week, I went to a gastroenteritis and according to her, it might be acid reflux. All my lab test are negative - blood test, urinalysis, fecalysis and ultrasound KUB. She gave me omeprazole for two weeks and instructed me to go back for evaluation. It's been two weeks and it seems that the medication works, my stomach has subside, although sometimes I can still feel something. My problem now is that I noticed changes in my bowel habits, its becoming a daily habit and have a feeling of not emptying the back passage. I getting worried that its not acid reflux since my only symptoms are the stomach and frequent gas, and now changes in bowel movement. Anyone of you here experience changes in bowel movement? Please, I hope someone can share it to enlighten me, I'm at my wits end. Thank you!

Sounds like constipation.

Your original symptoms sound like gastritis. Taking the acid med will make that feel better, but could cause other problems.

That's for the reply...I had a LBM a couple of days before I went to the doctor and before she gave me the acid meds...I mentioned it to her but she only gave me meds for LBM, it worked but since then, my bowel movement has bee on a daily basis, its solid so I doubt if its diarrhea. I've read that acid reflux can affect bowel movements, so I was wondering if anyone is experiencing this.

Julie Boleware
In the beginning I had bowel issues, too. Before meds and after. They got better when I found an acid med I could tolerate.

Julie King Boleware I see thanks for the tip. I'll ask my doctor if its a side effect of the med or its an expected effect of acid reflux...Appreciate it!

Sounds like dumping syndrome to me.Have you had surgery? Like the nissen fundiplication? If you have you will have all kinds of things and feelings till you get healed. Your diet is the main thing. You have to be careful of what you eat and your intake. I have had to learn the hard way. Good luck.

No surgery...Ive been in a lot of stress for the past months (and years actually) but the symptoms just started last month, the feeling of empty stomach, frequent gas...so the doctor suspected acid reflux...if the med wont work for two weeks, she'll recommend endoscopy and colonoscopy (which is expensive in the Philippines)...its been two weeks, the med seems to work but now the changes in bowel habits is worrying me.

In regards to food, I cant seem to figure out whats the trigger since my symptoms are not that severe.

I'm not a doc but just taking the meds will cause a lot of things to go on in your digestive system.Stress and worry will cause a lot of grief. When we can't fight back something that is not physical our body tends to take the brunt of it. It catches up with us eventually.Try an exercise program. Go confide in someone you can trust like your minister or if you have a human resource person on your job. Those are people you can trust. Sometimes talking to someone you don't know is good. Like a different minister that you don't know. You need to relieve the pressure.

Ginger Hopkins Im hoping its just acid reflux and stress...coz' Ive been paranoid for the past month...i even stop accepting clients bcoz of this...Yes, I dont have a lot of physical and moral support since its just me and my dad...Hopefully, my doctor will clear me this week...I dont want to go under go endoscopy and colonoscopy, aside from its expensive, no one will drive me to the hospital hehe...Thanks for this, I'll go back to the doctor this week...Im just so worried about this damn bowel movement.

You can try enzymes and probiotics, including yogurt, which help digest the food which is causing gas which pushes the acid back up the esophagus. Were you on antibiotics before you developed Gerd.
