'Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach. Many people, including pregnant women, suffer from heartburn or acid indigestion caused by GERD

Im sure ive had gastritis too as I have horrible stomach cramps and cant get comfortable

So ive just got back from the gastreonology department for my consultation and chat about my mannometry study which showed significant reflix and a very relaxed les and basically what a waste of time. Its disheartening when youve been in so much pain and someone looks at you like some kind of hypochondriac! I described my chest pain that is quite deep on my left side and sometimes radiates through to my back (like a really bad sharp bruised feeling) and the pain in my sternum and the doctor said that it wasent anything to do with my esophagus and that he wouldnt want me to have surgery as he doesnt think acid is the cause of the pain. He mentioned costochondritis but the pain is deeper inside and not on the surface. 2 years ive been trying to sort this and all I got at the end was you should get yourself back to work and get on a good antacid and i'll write back to your doctor. Ive come to realise that a high percentage of medics are just incompetent ignorant idiots! Talking down to me the $$#$$!!

I agree! I feel like they think I'm hypochondriac, or they say it's anxiety, I'm maybe getting anxiety from them not be able help me!

Peter Andrew Davies
Its so annoying 😠 Should say Ive never had anxiety until I tried to get help from you 😑

I still don't know what's wrong with me, before vacation my doctor gave me pantoprazol and she even said that I can eat anything lol, I had so much struggle and literally I need Google everything.

Stephanie Jones You may have a bile reflux like my gastro thinks I have.

Peter Andrew Davies
I havent looked into bile reflux. Going to google .

In America the Med Schools do not teach real nutrition or natural healing with food.

Some folks here have recommended this book which I just purchased.

Waiting to get my EGD at Hospital this month.
But I’m much better and my pain in between shoulder blades has subsided quite a bit with diet changes.
I’m drinking Aloe Vera Water mixed with Aloe Gel and taking a good Probiotic.

Hi Daved. Thank you for this post. Its the same here in the uk. I think doctors study about an hour of nutrition a month. Ive even heard a doctor laugh when told kids should study nutrition in school. The ignorance is mind blowing.. I mean you dont have to be a rocket scientist to realise your health will reflect on what you put into your body, fill a car up with coca cola and see how it gets.. I mean this stuff is common sense yet 99.9 percent of doctors have the common sense of a fence post. Im going to order this fast track book! Thank you :) I hope all goes well for you at the hospital and thats great the pain has lessened for you quite a bit .

Bronwyn Robins
Peter have you seen a Functional GP? I've been seeing one for about 9 months and we are investigating the root cause of my issues - thinks my gastritis, esophigitis and hiatus hernia are all symptoms rather than the root cause. He is the only practitioner who firstly believes my bizarre symptoms and doesn't think anyone should live with ongoing pain, inflammation etc. Historically I've been to a conventional gp, physician, allergist, gastroenterologist and they were all quite limited and dismissive, compared this guy is amazing.

Peter Andrew Davies
Hi Bronwyn. I havent seen a functional gp. Would I have to go private for that? Thats interesting .. I have a hiatus hernia 3cm and esophagitis too. At a time it was excruciatingly painful. Im sure ive had gastritis too as I have horrible stomach cramps and cant get comfortable. This guy sounds very good fairplay! Is he in the uk? And did you get chest pain from the esophagitis.. on the left side? Like a sharp bruised feeling beneath the ribs? Sorry.. questions questions .

Bronwyn Robins Hey Peter, I'm actually in Australia so probably a bit far for my F-GP. I'm not sure if they are called Functional or Integrative GP's in the UK. Mine actually works under medicare so I pay a bit out of pocket but the rest is subsidised, but he is the only one I've found who does this most are private and quite expensive but worth it. My pains are a bit different to yours, my main gripe is with chronic inflammation and pain on my right side, it used to roam btn my ribs and appendix. Sometimes it would refer to my left side but that's eased off and I'm just back to rhs below my ribs. I've played around with food to see what my triggers are and that's been the most helpful. I refuse to take medication much to my normal GP's annoyance πŸ˜‚

Peter Andrew Davies
Bronwyn Robins ahh bit far πŸ˜† I will check here in the uk though. I bet its so refreshing to have someone treat you like an actual human being rather than just a number. I think too my pain on the left side is from inflammation but according to the doctor I saw yesterday nothing to do with my esophagus :/ πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ Its great annoying the gp hey πŸ˜‚ this guy said to me yesterday.. it seems yoir medications are working better than ours? I said yep.. and they dont kill people either πŸ˜‚

It seems GP all over the world are the same. I went back and forth for years. My symptoms are the same as yours when it flares up badly. I've been given meds that don't work even an asthma pump, I dont have friggin asthma!! I wasn't breathing properly because of the intense pain in my back. Comes down to doing your own research, watching your diet and trigger foods. I go to a homeopath now and she's helped me, every appointment is half an hour and she really listens to what I'm saying and doesn't make me feel like im wack job. And my body has too much lactic acidπŸ˜•. The GP and specialists try to get you out of their office within 15min max!. Feel better than when I take GP'S crappy meds as well. I've learnt alot from this group. Great not to be judged.

Libby Hardy
have they done an upper scope on you?

Peter Andrew Davies
Hi Libby Hardy Yes a year and a half ago. They found a hiatal hernia and esophagitis grade b with ulcers. Weird thing is I didnt have any chest pain at that point. It started about a month after the endoscopy.

Libby Hardy
Peter, I had one a few weeks ago. with hiatal hernai, and esophagitis grade d, extreme inflammation, and get to go back in a few weeks for another one. do you feel like you are getting food stuck in your throat?

Peter Andrew Davies
Im thinking mine must of gone from a grade b to a d. The pain was unreal.. like someone poking pins in my esophagus and the pain would radiate through to my back. Its nowhere near as bad as that now though. Things dont het stuck now but when it was really bad id take a pill and cough it back up 5 mins later :/ food does still get stuck in my chest though

Libby Hardy
Peter Andrew Davies, sounds like you need to have another scope. can you go to a gastroenterologist? the food coming back up or pills... could also be the LES problem.... which can require surgery, so who told you no surgery?

Peter Andrew Davies
I thought that too. I had a manommetry study 4 weeks ago ( tube up nose and into stomach) which showed my les was very relaxed. The doctor I just saw said he didnt want to give me surgery as it may make other stuff worse for me. He didnt make much sense at all to be honest. He was a bit thick and condescending πŸ˜†

find a new doctor

Peter Andrew Davies
He was a specialist sorry. I went back to my doctor today and said he was useless.

Libby Hardy
the hiatal hernia will cause a relaxed les too

Peter Andrew Davies
I have pain right at the bottom of my sternum too.. its more like directly behind it. It doesnt hurt when i touch it but when i push against it it feels really sore and bruised

Libby Hardy
well I hope you figure it out soon! Random question, can you still taste?

Peter Andrew Davies
Thanks Libby Hardy 😊 yes can still taste although I feel not as good as I used to be able to.

Mohamed Sharif
A lot of my friends had the same thing including me but the difference they are from Dubai and from London lol I dropped uni and stopped working from this pain I told my GP abt streta procedure, Linx procedure He told me that he never heard of it πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ , juicing helped me so much flying to dubia or turkey to do linx procedure cuz it's cheap there with zero headache

Peter Andrew Davies
Hi Mohamed. Sorry you have it too and you had to drop out of uni :( Gps really are getting thicker πŸ˜† I told the specialist I saw yesterday that I think I may have low stomach acid. He looked at me like I was an alien πŸ˜‚ Good luck with the procedure hope all goes well :)

Mohamed Sharif
It's ok Peter its lesson more than anything now I learn to save money from days like this and not to depend on NHS I hope you get well soon mate.

Mohamed Sharif
streta procedure is the most successful but it's expensive plus NHS building up case which can take up to 5 years Linx procedure is a bit cheaper but guess what NHS will take the piss out of you before they decide if you are suitable candidate or not 😑!!! Diet and of this procedure is must

Ricardo Lee
Well he looked at you like you are hypochondriac Bc basically he knows he can’t do anything for you. Isn’t that sad? Our medical system today only knows how to prescribe but not treat.

Stephanie Jones
There's no $ in treating, only prescribing. If they treat, we won't be back.

Ricardo Lee
Yup there is no profit in healthy people and no profit in cure.
