'Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach. Many people, including pregnant women, suffer from heartburn or acid indigestion caused by GERD

Does anyone know what coffee doesn't have reflux effects?

I drink this. My dr said to drink with a little milk or cream. I am one of those people who cannot give up my coffee but I am trying. Walmart was the only place I could find this here
acid reflux and gerd

I never saw that. Thanks for sharing!

I dont want to sound harsh, but if you dont have the will power to give up coffee too heal yourself, fixing GERD isnt important enough to you. Ive got multiple health conditions and I wish someone had said this type of stuff to me when it started.
Even Acid Free coffee can cause GERD. Once your lifestyle is in check and your red raw LES is healed. You MAY be able to re introduce low acid coffee. All the best.

It’s been good on my gut!

Caffeine aggravates Gerd. Most of us have cut out coffee, tea, coke and similar and chocolate for this reason

Lee Messenger
Bang on, if you dont have the guts to cut out such a small item a person is going to struggle with a plain GAPS type diet to heal.
I wish it was easy to, but its damned hard. YOu give up EVERYTHING enjoyable or stop whinging about GERD. Its pretty mu...Lihat Lainnya

No, it's just got less caffeine. The problem with coffee isn't so much the acidity. I mean that is bad too but the fact that caffeine relaxes your LES causing reflux. Decafe is just a step down, but still not good.

Cold brew seconded, it has been a game changer.

Kiran Arora
How is cold brew better? Lower acid?

Karla Guerrero
"According to a study done by Toddy, cold-brewed coffee is 67 percent less acidic than hot-brewed."
I mean, give and take since it's an internet article but it did feel a lot better for me.

Whole Foods sells Tiemans Low Acid Coffee

Some can tolerate low acid coffee, but its hella pricey. Also acid isnt the only reason coffee causes reflux. Its and irritant to the LES and the Oils are fat that can be a problem if like me you cant digest fats due to low lipase in my bile.

Kimberly Shields Rodriguez
Have you tried ox bile? Do you have your gallbladder?

Lee Messenger
Yeah i have my GB. its due to hashimotos of my thyroid, it controls lipase but lipase forms another enzyme which is the one that eats your belly fat away, melts it, however you like to think of it. thats why thyroid disease people also find it hard to lose fat.Ox bile, sounds interesting. I can just take enzymes, but Ox bile it says helps the liver generally as well, 60% of thyroid T4-t3 conversion is done in the liver, thats my problem i dont convert T4 well.

If you cant give up coffee you arent all that serious about fixing GERD, Period. It gets much harder than giving up just coffee. A GERD fixing diet is BLAND, deal with it.Sorry to be harsh. But its reality and I wish someone had been straight with me when I first developed it so i could give up the stuff causing it, instead of being put on PPIs and left on them for 15 years.
Acid gives coffee part of its taste, a slight sourness, the other is bitterness. So with no acid you are left with bitter coffee mmmmm. IMO I dont see the point in drinking coffee, even without acid it still causes GERD for everybody that has been honest about it, and I found the same. Try drinking Matcha Tea (japanease imperial stuff). Increased cognition without the stimulant feeling and the subsequent dump.
Some can reintroduce it when all the causes are fixed and the LES has healed. But thats not many as both the acid issue on the way down, and the caffeine irritation is never going to go away.
